WHAT IS ACCREDITATION?

Accreditation is a means to demonstrate our organization's commitment to improve service, manage risk and to distinguish ourselves from other organizations.

WHY DO WE SEEK ACCREDITATION?

It is evidenced that our organization strives to improve efficiency, financial accountability and service delivery creating a foundation for continuous quality improvement and client and family satisfaction.

Ultimately, the greatest value of accreditation is to assure the indivudals we support and their families that our service is focused on their unique needs and interests.

Accreditation also demonstrates to our funders and our community that we deliver quality services.  In addition, we must also be accredited to receive funding for services from Community Living British Columbia.

HOW DOES ACCREDITATION HAPPEN?

Accreditation is a continuous process.  However, at the end of each 3 year process, our organization is re-evaluated against a set of standards.  Each time a survey is completed a 1 year or 3 year accreditation is awarded.

At the time of survey, our worksites and homes are visited, individual service plans are reviewed, individuals and their families are interviewed, employees are asked questions and our financial records are examined.

At the completion of the survey, we are informed of any recommendations and where our organization has demonstrated exemplary practice.

Langley Association for Community Living has two - three year accreditation awards.  We are approaching our third survey in June 2009.  Our goal is always to achieve a 3 year accreditation.

WHO IS INVOLVED IN ACCREDITATION?

Everyone is involved: individuals we serve, their families, employees, the Board of Directors and our community.  We seek input from individuals and their families, our employees and the community at large to assist us in identifying areas for change and growth.  The Management Team is primarily responsible for the accreditation process and its reporting.

Accreditation is such an important part of the work we do that we dedicate management resources to ensuring that we are continuously managing quality assurance.

WHEN IS LACL's NEXT SURVEY?

Our next accreditation date is June of 2009.
